On Saturday November 12th, 2016, Maica Impact hosted its Annual Fundraiser Gala at Shangri-La Banquet Hall and Convention Centre. This year's event brought in 127 local and international guests to celebrate our 5th anniversary! Tables were beautifully decorated with tree centrepieces adorned with crystals and two bottles of wine to kick off the celebration!
This year's event was hosted by the dynamic duo Kevin and Michelle White. Mini anniversary cupcakes were graciously donated by Cuppykakes by Zehra complete with our logo and all! Performances included spoken word by Richy B, and live musical performances by Dr. Melissa Davis singing a ballad, and Dave Richardson singing old school reggae. Guests were amazed by the selections of silent auction items supplied by Auctions Canada! Items included hover boards, luggage sets, musical instruments, sports memorabilia, art work, jewellery and home décor! Maica Impact presented an informative PowerPoint presentation complete with pictures and videos to update the completion of last year's projects as well as showing this year's FOUR projects. At the end of the event, Audiotainment spun the records and had the guests on the dance floor dancing the night away! On Saturday November 7th, 2015 Maica Impact hosted its Annual Fundraiser Gala at Shangri-La Banquet Hall and Convention Centre. This year's event brought in 135 local and international guests. Ms. Letna Allen-Rowe was the MC and she kept the audience captivated and on their toes with her witty sense of humor, and her rendition of the well-loved “Miss Lou” skit, complete with costume, song and dance.
There were six AMAZING performances of which guests were in awe:
- Beyond Sound Empijah - whose rhythmic African drums started off the evening with energy and excitement,
- Dr. Melissa Davis - who commanded the attention and amazement of the audience as she sang "You Were Loved" by Whitney Houston,
- Nezhada Gomes-Johnson of D'Zion Entertainment - who graced us with her elegant Flamenco Dance,
- Richy Bwhose spoken word piece entitled "Give Back" moved the audience,
- Winston Dayal of Anointed Pan whose playing had many talking about his talent after the event, and
- Camille Lauren of Art de Ciel - who Live-painted a stunning piece of art work throughout the evening that was auctioned off at the end of the night!
The Maica Impact team put on another informative and eye opening PowerPoint presentation outlining this year's three projects. The new jewellery line was a success and many pieces were sold! Each of the six board members of Maica Impact worked very hard to put on yet another successful event, and they look forward to seeing all who attended this year back again next year! Annual Dinner & Dance - 2014
On Saturday November 1st, 2014, Maica Impact hosted its Annual Fundraising Dinner and Dance event at the Shangri-La Banquet Hall and Convention Centre. The event was hosted by Jamaican-Canadian comedienne Malaika Bryce who did a fabulous job keeping guests laughing and entertained throughout the night. Attendees had the opportunity to take part in a wonderful evening filled with a variety of activities geared towards raising funds to support Maica Impact's FIVE projects.
The evening consisted of a silent auction showcasing many items donated from various individuals and community businesses, exciting door prizes, and a raffle draw for a television, Samsung Tablet, and an iPad Air. This year, Maica Impact accepted credit card payments, which proved to be a saving grace for guests who were working hard to get their final bids for the silent auction items they hoped to secure. A special thanks to all who placed bids, and congratulations to the winners! This year's performances included steel pan played by Winston Dayal, an interpretive dance piece by Rochelle Robinson set to Jamaican music throughout the times, and lyrical poetry by spoken word artist Richy B.
Maica Impact put on an informative presentation including pictures and video footage of updates from past projects, and discussed the new projects for which they are currently raising funds. The evening was packed with information and excitement and we received nothing but positive feedback. The event concluded with guests dancing the night away to a medley of well selected songs from our infamous DJs Rowan and Chris of Audiotainment. Many guests danced until the wee hours of the morning!
Thank you to all of the new supporters we had the chance to meet and greet at the event. We hope to see you again next year!
